Katherine Holmquist-Burks, Sheridan's New Principal for 2009-2010
Sheridan Elementary has had a busy fall and we are looking forward to an even more active winter. Our "Everybody Wins Minnesota" volunteer reading program with the first graders is going very well. Both students and mentors from HealthEast are eager to read together over their lunch hours on Mondays. We have to date 31 volunteers who come weekly from HealthEast to read and enjoy reading with their 1st grade buddies. We hope to expand this program to both 1st and 2nd grade next year.
Pre-K has been a huge success at Sheridan. We have 16 students presently coming to Sheridan in the mornings to integrate with their Kindergarten friends in two classrooms. The program has been a huge success this year.

Sheridan's Principal - Katherine Holmquist-Burks 6/17/2009 11:33 AM Tuesday mornings at 9:18 a.m., Sheridan students in grades 1-6 meet for regular student assemblies. Students arrive in the gym to music provided by the Principal, Ms. Holmquist-Burks, and Mr. Reeve, Instrumental Music Teacher. As a group we say the pledge to the American Flag, sing the school song, and discuss the "Attribute of the Week." Along with the attribute, a topic of concern in the school is discussed by the Principal and the students. This is always a great way to start out our Tuesdays.
Students at Sheridan have been working extremely hard in all of their academic endeavors this year so far. As Principal, I have been impressed and proud to watch students achieve and succeed each and every day. "Lunch With the Principal," on Mondays during the lunch hour, has been a great way to get to know students at Sheridan in a better way. Student's names are drawn in the ticket drawing on Friday afternoons, and four individuals are choosen to bring their lunch to the Principal's office on Mondays. Sheridan has great students who are respectful and eager to be successful. We are proud of our school!
